Hi! I’m Catelin Drey, Iowa’s newest State Senator (still pretty surreal to say, if we’re being honest!) and today I’m reaching out on behalf of the Iowa Democratic Party.

In August, I won a special election in SD-01. I decided to run for this seat because I was tired of Republican leadership failing my daughter and my community. I ran on a positive, common sense, economically sound agenda, and it worked.

Together, we flipped a seat in a district that Trump won by 11 points in 2024, and broke the GOP supermajority in the State Senate.

My story is just one of the many victories Iowa Democrats have experienced this year (hi, Senator Zimmer!), and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of IDP. Having the support of my state party made all the difference. IDP helped recruit volunteers and knock on doors. Those grassroots efforts put us over the top on Election Day.

IDP is continuing to invest in building a permanent campaign to support Democratic candidates like me who want to move Iowa forward. My story is proof that when we support and uplift Democrats, even when they’re underdogs, we can win.

It’s no secret that change is happening in Iowa, and IDP needs your support to keep building on that momentum so that Iowa Democrats are set up for success between now and next fall.
