Protecting Health Care for TX-29 Families

October 6, 2025
Dear John xxxxxx,

Health care is one of the biggest concerns I hear about from families in our district. Parents want to know they can take their children to the doctor. Seniors want the peace of mind that they can afford their prescriptions. Working people want coverage that doesn't eat up their entire paycheck.

Right now, that peace of mind is at risk. The government shut down on October 1st because Conservative leaders refuse to work with Democrats to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits and roll back the deep Medicaid cuts in the “Big Ugly Bill.” Without these credits, premiums will skyrocket and millions of Americans will lose their health coverage.

Instead of working with Democrats to protect families from these steep increases, leaders on the Right and the president have walked away from the negotiating table. Their choice will hit families in Houston especially hard, where the high cost of living is already squeezing household budgets.

Democrats have a plan to keep health care affordable, and I am committed to fighting for it. We need solutions that lower costs, not political games that make life more expensive. Families in TX-29 deserve better.

What this means for TX-29 families

111,000 people in TX-29 will see their health care costs increase if Republicans let critical tax credits expire.

  • For a 60-year-old couple earning $82,800 a year, premiums will rise by $15,266 (234%).
  • For a family of four earning $64,000 a year, premiums will increase by $2,571 (261%).
  • For a family of four earning $129,800 a year, premiums will rise by $7,400 (70%).
  • 51,857 people in TX-29 will lose health coverage because of cuts to Medicaid and attacks on the Affordable Care Act.
  • 3,457 people in TX-29 will lose coverage due to Medicaid cuts in Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill.”
  • 48,400 people in TX-29 will lose coverage because of the expiration of tax credits and new red tape.

If the premiums increase by a $1,000 a year, will you still be able to afford health insurance?

What this means for America

15 million Americans will lose health insurance due to provisions in Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill” and Republican policies to dismantle the Affordable Care Act.

Under Trump and Republicans “Big Ugly Bill,” cut nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid and more than $500 billion from Medicare.

Health care is not a privilege. It is a right. I will keep fighting every day to make sure Houston families and millions of Americans have access to the affordable care they deserve.

Sincerely,
