Your Latest Briefing from the Liberal Democrats. | | | A momentous Conference in Bournemouth | There was much to celebrate as we arrived in Bournemouth for Autumn Conference, from Lib Dem wins in Parliament to more local election success. But with our country facing so many profound challenges, Conference was also a chance to plan and prepare for the critical campaigning ahead.
With Labour failing to deliver and the Conservatives in freefall, it falls to us to take on Nigel Farage and stand up for British values of decency, tolerance and the rule of law.
As Ed Davey laid out in his keynote speech, the next few years will be about what kind of country we want to live in.
We only have to look at Trump’s America to see what a Britain under Farage would look like - with basic rights and freedoms trampled, and where racism and misogyny get the tacit support of those in power.
Ed had a strong message for the country: Don’t let Trump’s America become Farage’s Britain. | | | | At Conference we, quite literally, banged the drum and flew the flag for liberalism.
We heard powerful speeches from key Lib Dem figures, celebrated how far we’ve come and how far we will go at the Conference Rally, and passed 22 policy motions to fight for a more liberal, caring, and prosperous country and world. | | | The message from Conference was clear - with optimism and determination, we can overcome Reform’s dangerous rhetoric and fight for the liberal Britain we all believe in.

We have new spokesperson roles for immigration and asylum, schools, cancer care, rural affairs and a Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, and some of our MPs have moved into new roles.

This attack didn’t happen in a vacuum. Antisemitism is rife on Britain’s streets. That must end now. We all must come together to make sure our Jewish friends and neighbours feel safe walking on their streets and worshipping at their synagogues.
Those who preach antisemitic hatred, those who incite violence against Jews must be stopped. It is never acceptable. Together, we can make sure that our British values of decency, tolerance and respect will prevail. | | | This month, we launched our new campaign to ‘balance the BBC’, with over 20,000 people having signed our petition so far.
Despite having only five MPs, the BBC is providing wall to wall coverage of Reform UK, helping to fuel their dangerous and divisive rhetoric.
We’re calling for the BBC to provide proportional coverage of political parties year-round - currently, broadcasters are only obliged to do this during a regulated period in the lead up to elections, with weighting based on a party’s parliamentary heft.
As our national broadcaster, the BBC has a duty to keep the public informed. It has an important role to play in our democracy, so people expect and deserve balanced news coverage.
Sign our petition below, and share it with your friends and family, to help us balance the BBC. | | | | | Remembering Menzies Campbell | We are deeply saddened by the loss of our former leader, Menzies Campbell.
Ming served in Parliament for five decades as a tireless champion for Fife, St Andrews, Scotland and the UK. A true Liberal giant, he spoke with courage and wisdom, from opposing the Iraq War to guiding colleagues with kindness and humour.
Beyond politics, he was a warm and generous friend and always thoughtful of others. In his youth, he was an Olympic sprinter and British 100m record holder, and he was captain of both the Scotland and Great Britain athletics teams.
He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with all who loved him.
You can read tributes to Ming from across the party here: | | | Lib Dem achievements in Local Government There are over 3,000 Lib Dem Councillors and 76 Lib Dem-led councils across the country fighting for their local communities.
And they’re delivering!

Unlike Labour and the Conservatives, who are consistently losing seats to Reform, we are showing they can be beaten!
We beat Reform to a council seat in Luton last month, and also gained a seat from the Conservatives on Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council, holding off Reform again.
And we’re winning across the UK, gaining a seat from the SNP in Tain & Easter Ross.
Congratulations to those elected and thank you to all our candidates for standing and their hardworking teams and volunteers. | | | Work with us | We’ve got a wide variety of vacancies - both paid and voluntary - currently available.
