Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good morning, everyone, and happy Monday!

Unfortunately, we are now entering day 6 of the Democrat shutdown. On Friday, Leader Thune gave Senate Democrats another chance to do the right thing and pass the House's clean, nonpartisan stopgap measure. It failed again, showing Democrats have no interest in coming to the table to make a deal. Read my statement below:

“House Republicans passed a clean, straightforward funding bill to keep the government open through November 21, 2025. Our bill was simple, responsible, and gave the Congress time to finish the appropriations process without partisan games.

“Instead, Democrats walked away and demanded $1.5 trillion in new spending for a short-term continuing resolution, along with extreme provisions. Their plan would reinstate taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens, giving benefits to those who broke our laws, while at the same time slashing $50 billion in investments in rural healthcare that families in Wisconsin depend on. That tells you everything you need to know about their priorities.

“For years, Democrats have banged the drum that shutdowns are unacceptable, however, Senate Democrats forced a shutdown to push their extreme, partisan priorities. Unlike my Democrat colleagues, I proudly voted to keep the government OPEN.”

Keep reading on to hear additional updates about what's been happening in Washington and Wisconsin. I hope you have a great week.

Rep. Fitzgerald & Wisconsin House Republicans Urge Governor Evers to Submit Wisconsin’s Application for the Rural Health Transformation Program

Recently, I issued the following statement after leading a letter with Wisconsin’s House Republican delegation to Governor Tony Evers, urging him to submit Wisconsin’s application for the Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Program to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The deadline for states to apply for funding is November 5, 2025.

Created under the Working Families Tax Cuts signed into law by President Trump earlier this year, the RHT Program provides a $50 billion investment to strengthen rural healthcare by improving patient outcomes, expanding access to healthcare, and supporting providers and caregivers.

"Rural communities in Wisconsin have fewer healthcare facilities and patients have longer travel times to see a doctor. The Rural Health Transformation Program is a historic opportunity to reverse this trend and deliver real solutions for patients and small-town hospitals across our state. I was proud to vote for the Tax Cuts for Working Families legislation that made this possible. Governor Evers must act quickly and take advantage of this historic opportunity for Wisconsin."

The letter was co-signed by Reps. Tom Tiffany (WI-07), Glenn Grothman (WI-06), Bryan Steil (WI-01), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) and Tony Wied (WI-08).
