Trump administration cracks down on Minnesota sports for allowing trans athletes to compete -- The Advocate
John,
The Trump administration just launched a cruel new attack, this time targeting Minnesota for allowing trans student athletes to play sports as their true selves.
The same elected officials who made history for equality are now fighting to defend it. Add your name to show Minnesota’s LGBTQ+ leaders that you have their backs!
Federal officials are threatening to strip Minnesota of critical funding unless the state bans trans girls from participating in girls’ sports. They’ve even demanded the state erase the records of trans athletes and issue letters of apology to cisgender athletes, an act of pure humiliation.
But here’s what they don’t say: Minnesota’s inclusive policies didn’t appear overnight. They’re the result of years of work by openly LGBTQ+ elected officials like Representative Leigh Finke, Representative Brion Curran, Senator Erin Maye Quade, and others who fought tirelessly to make Minnesota a place where trans youth can live, learn, and play with dignity. Now, their leadership and courage are being rewarded with hate.
Attorney General Keith Ellison saw this attack coming and took bold action — preemptively suing the Trump administration to defend trans youth and protect Minnesota’s values of inclusion and equality. But he and Minnesota’s LGBTQ+ leaders can’t do this alone.
We need to show them they’re not standing alone! Add your name to our petition of support for Minnesota’s LGBTQ+ elected officials and allies fighting back against Trump’s transphobic agenda.
Thank you for showing support,
Sarah LeDonne
