** Hood River Church Cultivates Community, Connection, and Faith with Familias Unidas Garden
------------------------------------------------------------
We’re excited to share how one of our Latino church partners in Hood River, Oregon, is making a meaningful impact in their community through our Lilly-funded Familias Unidas initiative. With a vision to create safe and welcoming spaces for Latino families, the church "Alas de Aguila" has launched a community garden that’s now bringing people together in powerful ways.
What started as a small idea has grown into a vibrant project, thanks to the dedication of the church and the support of local families. The garden includes vegetable beds, a children’s playground, and a kiosk where the church hosts events and workshops. Every other month, they offer seminars to equip parents with practical tools for connecting with their kids and passing on faith and family values.
Many Latino families in Hood River work in agriculture, so the garden feels like a natural extension of their daily lives—only now, it’s a space they’ve built for themselves and each other. Community members have joined in with their time, tools, and energy, turning this space into something special.
We’re proud to walk alongside churches like this one as they find creative, community-rooted ways to bring people together and embody the gospel in everyday life. This particular project not only brings people closer to the church, it also brings the church closer to the community.

** Letters to the Church: A 2025 Long-Form Series
------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine the New Testament epistles—inspired by the Holy Spirit, written by a human author, and rooted in a specific cultural moment. What would it look like to envision, organize, and draft a letter to the Church today?
That is the driving question behind our 2025 series. We've asked our contributors: What would you say to the Church if you could pause and speak with courage?
Each Friday this fall, you'll find an honest, courageous letter from Missio Alliance voices for this moment.

Sowing Solidarity: Planting Seeds of Justice and Belonging
During Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the resilience, creativity, and faith of Latino/a communities. At the same time, we name the pain of being singled out, scapegoated, and targeted by unjust policies in recent months. In the Spirit of Christ, we hold both lament and gratitude.
Journaling Prompt — Sowing Solidarity
This month, take ten minutes to reflect:
* Where do I see the gifts of Latino/a communities in my city or church?
* How can I move beyond appreciation into solidarity—standing with those facing harm or exclusion?
* What is one small seed I can plant this week that makes space for justice, belonging, and flourishing?
Write a closing prayer in your journal beginning with:
“God, let this seed become…”
