Facial recognition technology is fundamentally flawed, systemically biased, and has no place in our society.
That’s why I — in partnership with Reps. Pramila Jayapal, Rashida Tlaib, Yvette Clarke, and Senators Ed Markey and Jeff Merkley — introduced legislation to stop government use of biometric technology, including facial recognition tools.
Black and brown people are already over-surveilled and over-policed. It’s critical that we prevent government agencies from using this faulty technology to surveil communities of color even further.
Every person has the right to live free from unjust and discriminatory surveillance by the government and law enforcement agencies — that’s why this legislation is so important.
