Sisters and Brothers -
We are living in the most dangerous moment in modern American history. The decisions that we make today will determine whether or not we remain a democratic society and whether working families will have a shot at a decent life.
Good news. Bad news.
The good news:
The good news is that 320,000 Americans (from all political perspectives) in 21 states came out to Fighting Oligarchy rallies. The American people are prepared to stand up to Trump.
The good news is that Zohran Mamdani is running a brilliant grassroots campaign for mayor in New York City with 70,000 volunteers, is ahead in the polls, and has a strong chance to defeat Trump and the Oligarchs.
The good news is that Republican candidates in Virginia and New Jersey are behind in the November 4th governor races in those two states - despite Democratic candidates who are not particularly strong.
The good news is that progressive candidate Adelita Grijalva won a strong victory in her special election for Arizona district 7, adding another Democrat to the slim numbers in the House.
The good news is that, at this moment at least, the Democrats in the Senate are holding firm against the Republican Continuing Resolution which would double insurance premiums and throw 15 million Americans off the healthcare they have through massive cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
The good news is that more and more Americans are seeing through Trump‘s demagogic policies and polling suggests that he is becoming increasingly unpopular.
The good news is that on October 18th there will be No Kings rallies around the country which are expected to bring out millions of Americans to protest the horrific policies of the Trump administration.
The bad news:
Trump‘s authoritarianism and illegal and unconstitutional actions are becoming “normalized.”
There is hardly a murmur when he posts racist and lying posts on government social media.
Few Americans are shocked anymore when ICE agents smash down doors, or when federal troops occupy American cities.
Too many people think that it is acceptable government behavior for the president to deny appropriated federal funds to states who committed the “crime” of voting against Trump.
Little surprise that Trump is suing the New York Times and that his billionaire allies are now taking over CBS and moving to ownership of CNN and TikTok. Trump billionaire supporters will soon be owning virtually all of the major social media platforms and television networks.
FINALLY, THE VERY, VERY GOOD NEWS.
With your financial help we are supporting two great progressive candidates who, if elected, will make a profound difference in the United States Senate.
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is running an excellent campaign in Michigan - focusing on such issues as Medicare for All and the need to stop Netanyahu’s barbaric war in Gaza.
Graham Platner in Maine, a veteran and a working class candidate, is drawing large crowds throughout the state as he opposes billionaire control of our government and the need to end status-quo, corporately dominated politics.
Needless to say, both of these progressive candidates will be outspent by corporate-backed Democrats. With your help, however, they can win their primaries and the general election.
The only way we come out of this unprecedented moment with democracy intact is if we continue to come together. We cannot allow Trump’s actions to be normalized. We cannot allow Republicans to kick 15 million people off of healthcare and raise premiums for 20 million more. We cannot allow billionaires to dominate our political systems.
Trump thrives off of the perception that he is in total control and has unlimited power. In reality, he is unpopular and losing support every day.
Now is not the time to tune out and put our heads under the blankets. Trump can be stopped. But it’s going to take all of us, coming together, and fighting back effectively.
In my presidential campaign we used to say “Not me, Us.” Now more than ever we must live up to that. We can do this.

When we act collectively we have the ability not only to create a dynamic progressive movement, but we will be able to transform our nation and create a government that represents all of us, not just the people on top. That’s the goal. Let’s do it..
In solidarity.
