Friend,
The heartbreaking fires in the Amazon are not “wild” fires. These are the fires of human destruction, bred by greed and disregard for the sacredness of what people rightly call the "world's lungs."
This also goes for the troubling fires that ripped through the Arctic this summer and the fires now escalating in the western United States. Same goes for the heat waves this year in Europe, India, Iraq, Australia, and beyond. And for July being the hottest month ever on Earth since we began keeping records.
When the world is on fire like this—and when people across the planet are mobilizing with their voices raised that rapid action must be taken to tackle the climate emergency—it is vital that independent and progressive media be there to cover it.
All the key issues that we cover day in and day out matter—from inequality to the scourge of gun violence, xenophobia, anti-choice policies, health-care injustice, and so much more—but none of those battles will mean much on a planet that is no longer inhabitable.
Our Summer Campaign is underway so that we have the resources we need to cover all of it—and cover it well. The world is on fire, and we must act like it is.
Can you join us today by supporting this work? If everyone does just the little bit they can, we will meet our crucial fundraising goal in no time.
