John, I'm running to become our next Senator here in Texas because this fight is personal for me. I'd love to take a moment to explain why.
I'm a fourth-generation Texan and the proud son of a single mom who taught in public schools and sometimes worked a second job just to make ends meet.
Growing up, my world was pretty small. I never imagined I'd work in the halls of Congress, let alone be fighting to represent the entire state in the Senate, hoping to become the first Black Senator from Texas. But I did dream of helping people – whether it was as Superman or a firefighter.
After playing football at Baylor University and in the NFL, I went to law school and became a civil rights attorney, specializing in voting rights. I've watched this fundamental right be attacked and eroded my whole life. Here in Texas, we have some of the most restrictive voter laws in the country, and after this year's GOP-led redistricting, Black and Brown voters will be even more disenfranchised.
It was one of the great honors of my life that one of my heroes and a voting rights and American giant, Congressman John Lewis, joined me on the campaign trail in 2018. I beat the odds – and an 11-term GOP incumbent – to win that race and help Democrats flip the House.
And although we came up short in last year's Senate race, I'm proud of the grassroots movement folks like YOU helped me build. Together, we outran the presidential ticket by nearly 200,000 votes.
As we continue the fight to finish what we started and finally turn Texas blue, I’m the only candidate with polling data showing a clear path to victory over the GOP frontrunner.
But I won't lie to you, John – winning won't be easy, and I will need every single person who believes in this campaign to fight alongside me to keep the momentum we've built going strong until the very end. If you believe that a kid from Dallas can rise to represent the very community that raised him in the U.S. Senate, then I’m asking you to stand with me. Make a donation today and help power this campaign to victory. →

Thanks for reading my story – and for being on my team. I can't tell you what it means to have you with me in this fight from the very beginning.
