Pat Ryan for Congress [[link removed]]
Hi friend,

I hope you are well. This has been a challenging week. Rather than protecting healthcare, lowering costs, and protecting our community, President Trump and Republicans chose to shut down the government. They’re desperate to protect Trump’s dangerous and unpopular agenda—tariffs that increase the cost of essential goods, skyrocketing healthcare premiums, and more. It’s yet another betrayal of the American people by an administration that we’ve only seen work for the ultra-wealthy.

We also saw Trump take new steps toward politicizing our military, a dangerous low even for him. His recent speech to our top national security leaders and generals was one of the most un-American and unpatriotic things I’ve seen in our lifetime, and his desire to deploy our troops into American cities is deeply dangerous.

I will be talking about both of those issues at length.

What’s going on
Trump's dangerous politicization of our military
[link removed] [[link removed]] [link removed] [[link removed]]What I’m doing: When I arrived at West Point as a cadet, my classmates and I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution. As I said on CNN [[link removed]] , quoting General Mark Milley, we don’t take an oath to an individual. We take an oath to the Constitution, and we take an oath to the idea that is America, and we’re willing to die to protect it.

Trump wants to destroy this fundamental American principle. He has made it clear that he wants a military loyal to him personally, not to our Constitution. He appointed Pete Hegseth, a deeply unqualified Fox News anchor, to lead the Department of Defense to implement its agenda.

This past week, Trump and Hegseth escalated their campaign. They brought our generals from around the world to Quantico, Virginia, for an overtly partisan and political speech.

Then, they doubled down on deploying our military against American citizens in American cities. They called it a ‘war from within.’

Let me be clear: this crosses a bright red line for our democracy. This is unconstitutional, unpatriotic, and un-American as it gets.

You can see my full thoughts on this here. [[link removed]]

The government shutdown

What I’m doing: My job is to serve and protect my constituents. With healthcare prices skyrocketing, tariffs driving up costs across the board, the unconstitutional deployment of U.S. troops against U.S. citizens, I could not in good conscience vote for the GOP funding proposal that would continue this damage.

I’m willing to work with anyone to reopen the government and actually deliver for the American people. I outlined my proposal for doing so here. [[link removed]]

Going on offense
[link removed] [[link removed]]

We can get through this moment: Because Trump is WEAK, not strong. He’s unpopular, prices are skyrocketing, and he’s violating the constitution in plain sight for all Americans to see. We can fight back and win, if we stick together. We are the Patriotic Majority, and we will win.

Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!

In Solidarity,

Pat
