Id like to thank everyone who came into the city centre this weekend for how they behaved and the way social distancing rules were observed. We understand how hard it has been for people who would normally enjoy spending time with friends and family in town, or at Nottinghams many pubs and bars. Its great to see the city centre opening back up and weve worked very hard with our partners to make the transition as straightforward as we can for business owners and the public, while keeping in mind at all times the need to remain vigilant.

So far Nottingham has not seen the levels of Covid-19 experienced in other parts of the country. That is down to the way everyone has played their part in helping to manage the outbreak by staying home, staying safe, hand-hygiene and observing social distancing. We need everyone to continue to help us with this to keep our city and its people safe.

Im really pleased to see some more of our own services reopening from today. We are closely following national guidance to ensure we can do so safely for our staff and service users. Some services will have certain restrictions and some will have phased re-openings across the next few months, and we thank everyone for their patience. Libraries, playgrounds and Queens Drive Park & Ride (details below) are among those reopening keep up to date with all service changes here [ [link removed] ].

Libraries

Libraries

The first libraries to re-open will be the Dales Centre, Mary Potter, The Meadows, Southglade Park and Strelley Road. To enable them to open safely there are temporary new opening times and changes to the way our Libraries work. If you are planning a trip to one of these libraries please visit our dedicated page - Libraries service during the Coronavirus [ [link removed] ] for guidance on what to expect, latest updates and phased reopening of other libraries. Nottingham libraries are currently offering a fines amnesty, if you do have any overdue books you can return these to any open library and not incur any fines.

Our new Online Library [ [link removed] ] is still available 24/7 for customers to access eBooks, eAudio, eNewspapers and so much more!

*Playgrounds and outdoor gyms*

Playground

There has been a further lifting of restrictions for public outdoor spaces and we can now open up playgrounds and door gyms. To keep everybody safe there are new guidelines including:


* No food or drink
* Only one adult per child in play areas at once
* Keep two metres from other people where possible
* Clean your hands before and after visiting

There is new signage in place to remind people of the guidance.

Queens Drive Park & Ride

Queens Drive Park & Ride

As the lockdown restrictions are eased in Nottingham, many of us will need to get around the city more. From today Queens Drive Park & Ride has reopened to the public. The Navy 49 route will serve the site with buses every 15 minutes. Please be aware that this service is now an exact fare route with no change available from the driver. The Medilink service to this Park and Ride will resume from Monday 13 July.

Our transport partners are working hard to keep you safe, so if you do need to use public transport please:


* Wear a face covering and avoid touching your face
* Keep your distance from others
* Plan ahead, check journey times and avoid peak travel times if you can
* Use contactless payments if you can.

Broadmarsh update

Council House

It has been hugely disappointing to see progress at the Broadmarsh redevelopment stall due to the Coronavirus and intus administration. The recent decision to disclaim the lease for the Broadmarsh centre to the council as owners of the freehold is a hugely significant step for the city. It means the council now has greater opportunity to start to develop a new, sustainable plan for its future.

We wont be able to do this by ourselves and we will need to work in partnership.

Broadmarsh is an extremely important site right at the heart of the city centre. Its vital that we maximise its potential as part of the wider regeneration taking place in the city, bringing investment, creating jobs and improving the quality of life for local people.

Our first priority now will be to ensure that the right of way through the centre is reopened safely as quickly as possible.
