Dear neighbor,

This week, I returned to Washington, along with all my Democratic colleagues, to protect healthcare and prevent a government shutdown. Republicans didn’t even show up.

Regardless of the chaos and political games, one thing will always remain true: I will never stop fighting for the people of California’s 31st District. From protecting affordable healthcare and ACA tax credits to ensuring costs aren’t skyrocketing out of control, I am working hard in Washington for you.

Hours after the government shutdown, I toured a Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley (PPPSGV) health center in Baldwin Park and a community health center in West Covina to see the impact of the Republican healthcare cuts. During these visits, I heard directly from patients and providers about the devastating effects of rising premiums and federal funding cuts to the healthcare system.

Rep. Cisneros Wants to know...
If the ACA tax credits expire, premiums in CA-31 can rise by up to $13,783. Are you concerned how your healthcare costs may be impacted?

Regardless of a government shutdown, my office will be open to assist you. If you need assistance, please reach out to us at (626) 646-0369. Go to my website for an updated list of the federal services impacted by the government shutdown.

As we wrap up week one of the government shutdown, I am thinking about the thousands of federal workers who are being forced to work without pay, the essential services that have been put on pause, and all the hardworking American families who are caught in this preventable Republican healthcare crisis.

If Republicans let the ACA tax credits expire, over 44 thousand people in CA-31 will lose their healthcare coverage. And healthcare costs will skyrocket for everyone else. People in CA-31 will see their premiums rise by up to $13,783. The cost of living in America is already way too high. Hardworking Americans will be forced between feeding their kids and getting their medication. My constituents should not have to make this difficult choice because Republicans created this nightmare.

While our military, TSA agents, and so many others will not see their paychecks during the shutdown, I have also requested to withhold my pay until an appropriations agreement takes place. I urge all my Republican colleagues to do the same.

This Republican shutdown is going to have devastating impacts on so many Americans across the country. From the healthcare crisis and rising costs to our entire federal workforce going without pay, this mess was manufactured by Republicans and it’s hurting Americans. Their lack of leadership is disappointing and the entire reason behind this shutdown.

Since Republicans refused to come back and work out a deal to open the government, I flew back home to tour a couple of community health clinics and speak with staff and healthcare providers who shared deep concerns about the impacts of Medi-Cal funding cuts and rising premiums for their patients.

Planned Parenthood in Baldwin Park, like other Planned Parenthood health centers, are continuing to see anyone who walks through their doors despite being barred from receiving Medi-Cal reimbursements after the passage of the Big Ugly Law. Patients can still get the high-quality healthcare they know and trust. I toured the Baldwin Park health center to thank the selfless providers who continue to provide lifesaving care to our community.

I visited a community center in West Covina to discuss what we can do to support patients and providers during the Republican healthcare crisis. Thank you to our tireless healthcare professionals who continue to keep our community safe and healthy.
