John,
Trump’s shutdown is putting our national parks in a very precarious position.
If they close down, local communities lose billions and people are unable to visit the parks. In 2024, visitors spent $29 billion in towns near our parks, supporting restaurants, hotels, and small businesses. Shutting the gates cuts off that lifeline.
But if parks stay open without staff, they face vandalism, overflowing trash, and safety risks for visitors. That’s why 40 former National Park Service leaders urged the Interior Secretary to close the parks until this shutdown ends.
They are damned if they do, damned if they don’t. All because House Republicans would rather play political games than keep our government working for the people.
We’re fighting to elect Democrats who will protect our public lands and make sure extremists can’t hold our communities hostage again. But we need your help to keep up the fight.
Please chip in $5 to help us hold Republicans accountable for their reckless shutdown! [[link removed]]
