Because of Donald Trump and the Republican Party, American soldiers have no idea when their next paycheck will come. The men and women who care for our nation’s veterans at the VA could see their pay delayed. Layoffs of other federal workers are slated to start in the next few days.

All of this is on the GOP. They control the federal government — so they own the consequences of this shutdown.

Look, we all know the cause. But this shutdown isn’t about Donald Trump. And it’s not about the GOP or the Democratic Party either.

This shutdown is about the family in Denver who can’t afford their child’s insulin without Affordable Care Act subsidies. The seniors in Lakewood who are struggling to afford their medications. The hospitals in our mountain communities that rely on Medicaid to keep their doors open.

The Republican Party would rather shut down the government and freeze soldiers’ paychecks than ensure families can pay for their health care. The GOP’s priorities are completely twisted — and that’s why I refuse to let their incompetence slow down my work to take back the House.

If you’re with me, and you’re ready to elect a Congress that is so much more competent than the one we have now, I hope I can count on your support. I know these fundraising messages aren’t always a joy to see, especially at a moment as volatile as this — but National Republicans are still raising huge sums of money to expand their majorities, so we can’t slow down either.
