SIGN NOW: Local PBS and NPR stations are shutting down after Trump’s cuts. Demand Congress restore funding for public media NOW >>
John, Trump’s $1.1 billion cuts to PBS and NPR are already gutting access to independent, free media across the country:
-
Education: PBS Kids had to cut 25% of its staff and cancel community events and summer camps across the country. [1] Now, PragerU – a far-right company famous for downplaying slavery – is rushing to fill the void. [2] Already, the Trump administration has started a partnership with PragerU and 10 states are pushing their content into our classrooms. [3]
-
Local news: In many rural areas, PBS and NPR are the only reliable source for local news and emergency alerts. Without them, millions of Americans could be left in the dark during natural disasters. [7]
Trump is gutting public media and forcing his own narrative. Sign the petition to push back – and demand Congress restore funding for PBS and NPR now >>
Public media has long been one of America’s greatest equalizers – fearless, fact-based, and accessible to everyone.
For decades, PBS and NPR have given families trustworthy journalism, vital emergency information, and safe, educational programming for kids. And they’ve done it with much less public funding relative to other democracies around the world. [8]
That’s exactly why Trump wants them gone. An informed public threatens his disinformation machine.
Defunding PBS and NPR was never about saving money. It’s about silencing truth, weakening democracy, and emboldening Trump’s far-right propaganda.
If Congress doesn’t restore funding, more local stations will close. Parents will lose trusted educational resources. Communities will lose their only source of news and safety alerts. And Trump’s allies will fill the void with their agenda.
Add your name: Tell Congress to restore funding now. We must save PBS and NPR before it’s too late.
Public media belongs to the people – not politicians or billionaires. And together, we can protect it.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
