DEVELOPING … members in the House have just released a major new blueprint to tackle climate change — it tackles environmental racism, creates high-quality jobs, and lays out a plan that would put the United States on the path to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Friend — this is HUGE — but it sets up a
major fight ahead for all of the important policies to get us there. It is
absolutely critical that we build the foundation now to see this through with wide margins.
For that to happen, we need to mobilize — NOW. We need to whip up all the support we can possibly get from the House and the Senate. We need phones to be ringing off the hook in their offices. We need to get the press involved. We need to ensure that our voices are heard loud and clear.
We just kicked off our summer Membership Drive, and a major donor has agreed to contribute $500,000 to run campaigns just like this — on the condition that 10,000 LCV members also pitch in before the end of July.
In reaching this goal, small donations count the same as big ones. Renewing your LCV membership is just $5 right now — and it could be enough to put us over the top.
Friend, will you make an emergency gift today to help us reach this critical goal?
This plan could be transformative in the fight against climate change. It touches nearly every sector of the economy and prioritizes doing this work in an equitable and inclusive way. It would prioritize cutting pollution in communities of color that have borne the brunt of fossil fuel impacts for far too long. It would create an Economic Transition Office to assist workers from the coal, oil, and gas industry in finding new employment in more environmentally friendly industries. It calls for protecting 30% of U.S. lands and oceans by 2030, and establishes a climate bank that would be used to fund things like clean energy projects and pollution-reducing infrastructure.
But we're nowhere near done. Trump and the Republican-majority Senate will do everything in their power to block these critical measures from even coming to a vote.
We need to push hard for them anyway. The more support these climate actions have, the better the chances of them being a high priority and getting quickly signed into law once we take back the White House and the Senate. This is going to be a tough fight, but we need to do everything we possibly can to get the word out.
This mobilization — on top of everything else that is moving now — is going to take resources we just don't have right now. I can't stress this enough: This $500,000 grant would significantly improve our chances of winning many of the fights we desperately need to win — but first, we need those 10,000 members to chip in before the end of the month.
The best thing you can do right now, friend, is to renew your membership for 2020 — it only costs $5! »
Like I've said before, July is an absolutely critical month for the environmental movement. This is an all-hands-on-deck moment. Let's get the word out. Let's do it together.
Thank you, friend — for everything you do. I'm proud to have you with us for this fight.
Sincerely,
