John,
It’s been an incredibly tense week with Democrats holding the country hostage
by shutting down the government, but I wanted to take a moment to update you on
the important work we are doing to advance our conservative movement.
This week, our government entered a partial shutdown thanks to Sen. Chuck
Schumer and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Why? Because they have completely
kow-towed to their progressive base in an attempt to protect trillions of
dollars of wasteful spending, including healthcare for illegals and their own
Covid-era Obamacare subsidies that they set to expire! Make no mistake, this is
a Democrat shutdown. Republicans did their job and passed a clean continuing
resolution supported by President Trump to keep the government open. Even a
handful of Democrats crossed the partisan aisle to keep the federal government
functioning. I continue to support Republican leadership’s good-faith attempts
to convince disgruntled Democrats to drop this charade, change their votes, and
reopen the government for the sake of getting back to business.
As Vice Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Rural America tax team,
I was proud to help shape the Working Families Tax Cuts package. After
listening to families, small businesses, and farmers, including at a field
hearing in the Seventh District, it was clear what needed to be done. We made
the 20% small business tax deduction permanent, doubled the expensing limit to
$2.5 million, and secured an enhanced $15 million Death Tax exemption so farms
and family businesses can be passed down without crushing tax burdens. The
package also boosts Farm Bill programs for commodity support, crop insurance,
and trade promotion to strengthen American agriculture and secure our food
supply. This package is about delivering real results for families, farmers,
and small businesses, and I’m very pleased we got it done.
President Trump deployed federal resources to stop the radical Left’s hold on
Portland, Oregon. For years, this city has served as ground zero for Antifa-led
terror and chaos. Most notably, these liberal militants have turned their
sights on our Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents. They have
thrown explosives, projectiles, and even breached an ICE facility. As if that
wasn’t enough, they doxed, injured, and violently assaulted officers. But this
isn’t Portland’s first brush with chaos. Since 2016, Antifa members have
carried out over a dozen coordinated attacks against Portland Police,
historical buildings, and conservative demonstrators, and carried out countless
riots and upheavals that have wreaked havoc on the city. I fully support
President Trump’s decision to deploy resources to stop this political violence.
I call on all local and state officials to cooperate and end the Antifa-led
terror that has plagued Portland.
As always, thank you for your continued trust and support. Don’t hesitate to
reach out if you have any questions or need assistance with anything.
With gratitude,
