Government Shutdown Hurts Louisiana Families
There are real consequences for American families during a government shutdown. Military troops who are out there defending our freedoms will not get paid during a shutdown. The men and women of our Coast Guard won’t get paid either. Millions of families across our country who need flood insurance, including thousands here in Louisiana, will also be impacted by the shutdown because Democrats allowed the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to lapse. During a lapse, the NFIP is unable to write new policies or renew existing policies. So, if you're trying to close on a house in Southeast Louisiana where you need flood insurance, you can not get a new NFIP policy. I joined WDSU earlier this week to discuss how a shutdown affects us in South Louisiana.
