First things first: That Trippi Show is now available on video! And Joe Trippi and Alex Shashlo welcome guest Jayne Converse, a history and civics teacher whose popular Substack videos break down current events — including MAGA, the resistance, and Trump’s actions.
Trump got his wish: Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted. Jayne makes the case that Trump is “following the authoritarian playbook, play by play,” trying to normalize extremism and desensitize the public so he can get away with more. And Joe draws a comparison to the Night of the Long Knives in 1934, where Hitler purged his ranks in a loyalty test — similar to Trump’s display of power this week in front of military generals.
Despite the fact that Republicans control the presidency and the House, they are trying to blame the Democrats for the government shutdown. Jayne says Democrats are in a “damned if they do, damned if they don’t” situation: If they cave, they are seen as willing to strip social safety nets; if they hold out, they are blamed for prolonging the shutdown.
