John, I just shared the stage with Congressman Jamie Raskin.
With the grossly undemocratic Question 1 on November’s ballot, it was an honor to have such a champion for voting rights and the rule of law in our state. The energy was palpable, because it’s clear that Maine people are fired up and ready to fight back against Question 1 -- which threatens to make absentee voting much harder in our state.
This moment calls for leaders who won’t back down in defending our freedoms. I am proud to join Congressman Raskin to make it clear — the right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy, and we will not let it be taken away.
As Congressman Raskin so wonderfully stated, “The right to vote is not a luxury item for billionaires but a fundamental right by which people make our voices heard and shape our political future.”
As your next Governor I will be on the frontline of protecting our democracy, from ensuring fair elections to standing up against efforts that undermine the will of the people.
If we’re going to stop Question 1, that work starts now. And it’s going to take every single one of us doing our part from here until November.
So, if you’re with me, will you sign up for a shift with the No on 1 campaign? They have a Weekend of Action this weekend, and I’ll be knocking doors in Boothbay. But they’ll need volunteers every weekend until November. Can we count on you to sign up for a shift?
Sincerely,
Hannah Pingree
