More Like America is a new and needed organization to support more transformational candidates around the country.

Arena Community,

In 2017 and 2018, we invested in powerhouse progressive candidates who might traditionally have been shut out of politics. With 2020 well underway, we wanted to update you on how some of these candidates from previous years have grown since their elections.

Last week, we heard from two of our stars ([link removed]) , Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy, a Virginia state rep who is now running for Governor, and Lina Hidalgo, the chief executive of the third-largest county in America and largest in Texas.

Delegate Carroll Foy, a former public defender with a strong legislative record, has a great shot at winning the Governor’s race in 2021. And Judge Hidalgo has become the progressive line of defense in Texas, where she’s going toe-to-toe with Governor Abbott to keep Coronavirus in check.

Today I am proud to share an update about another of our 2018 candidates, Lauren Baer, who has just launched More Like America ([link removed]) , a new and needed organization to support more transformational candidates around the country.

Lauren, an LGBTQ+ mom and foreign policy expert who ran for Congress in Florida, earned a large share of votes in a traditionally red Congressional district. While she didn’t win in 2018, the results of her election upended conventional wisdom about what could be accomplished in Republican corners of Florida. Now she’s paying it forward by forming More Like America to help more diverse candidates like her get elected.

We’re proud to partner with Lauren and More Like America, who are committed to the kind of long-term structural change our country needs. Check them out and support their work if you can. ([link removed])

We know that women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are drastically underrepresented in government at the local, state, and federal level. More Like America aims to change that.

Partnering with More Like America is a natural fit for Arena. By investing in diverse candidates at the earliest stage of their campaigns -- and every tough point thereafter -- More Like America expands the pipeline to elected office, cultivating leaders that look and think more like the diverse constituents they represent.

Whether they’re running for Governor or fortifying the Democratic talent pipeline, candidates and organizations like Lauren and More Like America are a critical part of the progressive movement. Learn more and consider chipping in to support this kind of deep structural change if you’re able. ([link removed])

Best,
Ravi
