The biggest conversation in politics today is the government shutdown. Going extremely underreported is Hegseth and Trump’s speech before the entire corps of our most senior commissioned and non-commissioned officers.
We can’t let that speech be a blip. Because the fallout from it has implications just as serious — potentially even more so — as the shutdown.
Donald Trump declared war on American cities and the American people on Tuesday, and he told the top leaders of the United States Military that he would fire them if they didn’t go along with his plans. To use American cities as training grounds for their Troops. To prepare for war with “the enemy from within.” We know who that enemy is. It is us. Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller, has already labeled the Democratic Party a “domestic extremist organization.”
These are not jokes. They are not kidding. This is their objective.
But one thing during that awful speech gave us hope. In the face of that insanity from their Commander in Chief, those senior leaders gave nothing. Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump were met with silence.
They thought they looked like George Patton up there. They thought these seasoned and professional leaders would break out in standing ovations. Instead, they got nothing.
VoteVets continues to have the utmost respect for our brothers and sisters in uniform. This is not what they signed up for. And as Trump and Hegseth work to destroy this critical pillar of American democracy, we stand ready to defend them.
