John,

Earlier this week, President Trump and Secretary of Defense Hegseth addressed our most senior generals and admirals.

I listened carefully, not because I am a candidate for office but because I am someone who also chose to serve in the military as an officer and who was appointed by President Biden to the Pentagon and worked in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

This stopped me cold: The President described a war against “an invasion from within” and suggested that “American cities will be used as training grounds for our military.”

I now see these headlines:

Trump and Hegseth got it wrong. Their political vision of America is wrong. Full stop.

I fundamentally disagree with the misguided notion that the U.S. military should ever be turned against our own people or our own cities. The very fact that Americans now fear the possibility of our armed forces being used for political violence shows how far we’ve strayed. We are better than this — and we need leaders who prove it.

I love this country. I swore an oath to defend the Constitution. Our military must remain focused on real national security threats abroad, not pulled into the toxic and divisive rhetoric of domestic politics.

That’s why I’m running in the most competitive race in America — a must-win for Democrats if we hope to reclaim the House — to restore integrity, protect our democracy, and keep our military where it belongs: serving the people, not politics.

If you support this vision and want to show the country that there is a better way forward, a path where we aren’t divided and set against one another, but instead where we are united as one people—then I need your support now.
