[link removed] [[link removed]]Hi John,

This week, the South Carolina Legislature took center stage in the national fight for reproductive freedom. The all-male Senate Medical Affairs Committee held a hearing on Senate Bill 323 , the so-called "Unborn Child Protection Act."

At first glance, SB 323 looks like another extreme abortion ban. But it goes much further.

* It contains new definitions around "contraception" that could open the door to restricting birth control and fertility treatments like IVF.
* It could make medications like the morning-after pill illegal—supporters of the bill admitted in testimony that using emergency contraception under this bill could even carry jail time.
* By rewriting the definition of contraceptives, the bill quietly lays the groundwork for banning IUDs and other common methods of birth control in the future.

For weeks, advocates in South Carolina have warned: SB 323 would not only be the strictest anti-abortion law in the country, it's also a test. If extremists can get away with pushing this bill through, they will replicate it in other states and eventually on the national level.

This is exactly what Project 2025 outlines: changing definitions and using back-channel policies to strip away rights—starting with abortion bans, then pushing further to restrict contraception, IVF, and reproductive health care altogether.

When politicians try to redefine contraception as abortion, it's not about science—it’s about power and control. The stakes are clear: if they can redefine contraception as abortion, they can block access for millions of people across the country.
