VIDEO OF THE DAY: MTG calls for nuclear option in wild shutdown escalation
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called on the Senate to throw the rules in the trash and just pass the budget with a simple majority. Writing on Twitter, Greene said “And as far as worrying that using the nuclear option would damage partisan relations, let’s be real, that ship has sailed a long time ago. There are no partisan relations. Instead, Republicans need to learn how to weld [she meant wield] power when they have it and govern." While Republicans ignoring the rules, the law, and any sense of good faith is nothing new, this would be a dramatic escalation in the erosion of Senate protocol that could have disastrous effects for the GOP...if we can ever hold the Senate again. There's no indication that the Senate is considering this — the GOP seems perfectly content to let this shutdown continue — but Greene's call is yet another reminder that Republicans will not ever play by the rules and should not ever be given the benefit of the doubt.
