Let me lay this out as simply as I can, John.
Republicans in the House, the Senate, and the White House want health insurance premiums to double, even triple for 24 million Americans.
Democrats want people to be able to have health insurance they can afford.
It’s not about scoring points, it’s not about getting attention, it’s not because we want non-citizens getting Medicaid (they can’t enroll in it to begin with). By the way, what health care those people do have access to is emergency room service of last resort, because RONALD REAGAN signed a law in 1986 to stop people from dying in the street because they didn’t have health care.
Republicans in the Senate tried to steamroll us on this without negotiation. They’re enabling Trump and his goons to line item veto funding that we have mandated, by law — which is unconstitutional, by the way. They even passed recissions on a party line vote, AFTER a budget had already been negotiated and signed in a bipartisan way.
We want the government open. We want to negotiate a budget that doesn’t kick 24 million people off their health care because they can’t afford it. And we want Trump to follow the law.
That’s that, and I’m not budging.
Thanks,
- Ruben
