In March, Trump signed an Executive Order that, if implemented, would disenfranchise millions of Americans. It attempts to impose citizenship verification for federal voter registration, sanction states allowing post-Election Day mail-in ballots, and attach election funding to partisan compliance measures.
Attorney General Brown immediately took action, joining a coalition of 19 attorneys general in suing President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, the federal Election Assistance Commission, and other administration officials.
While the courts blocked the enforcement of several provisions of Trump’s order in the states that filed the lawsuit, Trump recently appealed the ruling. If the ruling is reversed, it could not only create confusion in our midterm elections but also have dangerous implications for our democracy.
Trump’s attacks on voting rights are a blatant power grab designed to rig the system by silencing eligible voters, undermining fair election rules, and punishing states for protecting democracy.
