** Message from Councilmember McDuffie
Neighbors,
I would like to thank the community members who joined us for Team McDuffie’s Community Office Hours at The Roost on Tuesday, September 23rd. I had the privilege of hearing directly from residents, ANCs, and business leaders from across all 8 Wards. Our conversations spanned a wide range of topics including future development at the RFK campus, neighborhood priorities, and the challenges currently facing small businesses.
I also had the opportunity to join Barracks Row Main Street for a walk-through to better understand the day-to-day realities local businesses are facing in the current economic climate. These moments of listening and learning help our staff shape the legislative work ahead.
As always, I remain committed to ensuring that our priorities align with community concerns, and I look forward to continuing these important conversations.
In service,
Kenyan
** Celebrating Culture at the H Street Festival
Last weekend, members of Team McDuffie attended the H Street Festival, a vibrant community event which drew thousands of attendees from all over the DC area. The event featured pop-up shops, showcases from local artists, and community organizations offering valuable resources—all set to a lively soundtrack provided by DJs and bands throughout the day. The festival brought energy and foot traffic to a corridor where retail growth remains a top priority.
**Touring the Resevoir District
On September 20th, I joined the Coalition for Smarter Growth for a walking tour of the Reservoir District, formerly the McMillan Sand Filtration site. After decades of planning, debate, and public hearings, the 25-acre site is finally taking shape. As a longtime neighbor, I’m excited to see this historic space reimagined. Thanks to all who joined us to explore its bright future!
**Supporting Innovation and Technology in the District
Last weekend, I also visited The Makerspace at Center City PCS, an impressive 20,000 square foot high-tech facility that’s transforming education for 1,400 Center City PCS students in Washington, DC. The makerspace embodies a revolutionary approach to learning, promoting creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on experience.
Just a few days later, members of team McDuffie attended the grand opening of Station DC at Union Market. The organization is home to DC’s newest hub for technology innovation, government policy, and venture capital.
It’s an exciting time in the District, with growing investment in innovation and technology. I’m proud to support these initiatives and energized by the opportunities they’re creating for our community.
**Standing with Union Members at Franklin
On September 24th, I delivered remarks at a rally with members of the 32BJ SEIU Union, the largest property services union in the United States. I am proud to stand with security guards in the District as they fight for fair wages, strong benefits, and the dignity and respect every worker deserves.
**Share Your Feedback: Out-of-School Time Survey
Are DC’s afterschool and summer programs meeting your family’s needs? The Office of Out of School Time, under the Deputy Mayor for Education, is inviting you to share your voice. Your feedback will help shape the future of out-of-school programming by identifying what works, what’s missing, and what barriers may be preventing your child from participating. This is part of a citywide effort to improve access, equity, and quality in programs that support our students beyond the classroom. The survey is anonymous. You can share your feedback here: [link removed].
