Dear Friends,

I know many of you share my outrage at Tuesday’s ICE raids on the South Shore and the continued escalation of hostility. ICE’s actions violate our civil rights and do nothing to keep our communities safe. We don’t need ICE or the National Guard in Chicago—we need dignity and justice.

While ICE creates chaos at home, Republicans are creating a crisis in Washington. The government is shut down, and Republicans refuse to work with Democrats to fund the government. While the government may be shutdown, I will keep fighting for your rights, your healthcare, and your family.

No Place for Gestapo-Style Tactics in Chicago

Earlier this week, ICE stormed South Shore with armed raids that terrorized families and shook our community. These tactics continue to raise tensions and do nothing to keep us safe.

I’ve also heard deeply disturbing reports that children and mothers were being held in unsafe conditions in the ICE facility in Broadview. I will continue pressing for oversight and accountability. Our communities deserve safety, dignity, and respect—not fear in the dead of night.

Shutdown Politics vs. American Families

Republicans shut down the government and lied about why. Let’s be clear: undocumented immigrants don’t qualify for ACA tax credits or Medicaid, and Democrats haven’t proposed changing that.

I don’t want a shutdown. I want affordable healthcare for every American—because strong families and healthy communities keep our country moving forward.

Serving You During the Shutdown

During a federal government shutdown, many agencies furlough staff and slow or suspend services. That can mean delays with passport services, IRS issues, immigration services, or Veterans Affairs issues.

My staff and I are here to help you navigate these problems during the federal government shutdown. While federal agencies may take longer to respond, my team and I will continue working to resolve your issue.

Helping constituents is the most rewarding part of my work. Recently, my office assisted David, a constituent, to ensure his clemency was honored—allowing him to walk free. Watch his powerful story of freedom and justice.

Finally, I hope you’ll join me at our Privacy Fair on October 18 (9:00AM to 12:00PM) at the South Side YMCA. Please save the date and RSVP here for more details.
