Email from Rep. Carter My work in TX-31 and Congress   Dear Texan, I wanted to provide you with an update on my work for Texas' 31st district in the United States House of Representatives. ON THE DOCKET: Government Shutdown Standing in Solidarity with Our Troops THE BRIEF: Hamas on Friday announced it agreed to release all Israeli hostages, dead or alive, as part of President Donald Trump's Gaza peace proposal. Chris Cuomo drops fact check on Hakeem Jeffries over government shutdown claim The U.S. military carried out another strike targeting a purported Venezuelan drug smuggling boat on Friday morning off the country’s coast, killing four people, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said. GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN Last week, House Republicans passed a clean continuing resolution, with no partisan riders, that would've kept the government open until November 21, 2025. This bill would've allowed the government to operate at previously agreed-upon funding levels that Democrats and Republicans negotiated in March, while continuing negotiations for 2026 funding. Instead, Democrats failed to support the clean CR through the Senate, where seven Democratic votes are required for passage, leaving the government in a shutdown that prevents America's military, federal workers, and contractors from receiving pay. House Republicans did our job. We voted to keep the government open and working for the American people. Democrats' demands are unreasonable and allow your hard-earned money to be used for illegal aliens and noncitizen health care. Once again, Democrats' policies put the American people last because now critical services for seniors, veterans, and our military at risk. STANDING IN SOLIDARITY WITH OUR TROOPS During a government shutdown, America's military members continue to work but do not receive a paycheck. In solidarity with the men and women who selflessly serve right here in Texas' 31st district, I have requested that my pay be withheld for the entirety of the shutdown. As always, thank you for staying engaged with the latest updates from Texas’ 31st Congressional District. It is an honor and a privilege to represent you and our great state in the United States House of Representatives. Sincerely, John R. Carter Visit our website!
