Dear John, we are proud to share the National Immigrant Justice Center's (NIJC) FY2025 Impact Report, showcasing how your support has made a profound difference in the lives of immigrants and their families during one of the most challenging years in recent history.

Thank you for being a part of the NIJC community.

A Year of Impact: By the Numbers

Our achievements and success rates speak to the quality and tremendous dedication of our legal teams. Thanks to your support, NIJC achieved remarkable results:

  • 10,100+ people reached through legal services
  • 2,673 people represented in removal proceedings
  • 2,202 people granted legal relief
  • 99% success rate for asylum and related matters, compared to a 19% success rate for unrepresented asylum seekers and 48% success rate nationally for asylum seekers with legal representation.

Defending Rights in Dark Times

This year has tested our resolve like never before. From ICE arrests in communities and courthouses to unprecedented attacks on America's legal system and mass firings of immigration judges, the challenges have been immense. Yet in the face of this adversity, we have moved forward with conviction.

Our multi-pronged approach—combining direct legal services, impact litigation, policy advocacy, and strategic communications—has allowed us to respond nimbly and effectively:

  • Educating communities: We led Know Your Rights presentations, reaching thousands of people across Illinois, Indiana, and virtually
  • Rapidly responding to courthouse arrests: When ICE began targeting people at immigration court, we filed lawsuits, provided on-the-ground support, and filed emergency motions to protect our clients
  • Defending access to asylum: We successfully challenged the administration's attempt to shut down asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border, securing a major victory for asylum seekers and the rule of law
  • Challenging unlawful arrests: We filed a motion to enforce the Castañon Nava settlement agreement on behalf of more than 20 people violently arrested without warrants or probable cause, including U.S. citizens

The Power of Partnership

None of this work would be possible without our incredible pro bono network. Over 2,600 legal volunteers donated more than 66,000 hours to defend due process for immigrants, supporting 2,470 cases and ensuring that each client has a dedicated team of advocates by their side.

Each victory—each person granted relief, each family reunited, each right defended—is a light in dark times. Your ongoing commitment and support makes this critical work possible. You help us defend human rights, due process, and the rule of law when they are under unprecedented attack.

In this pivotal moment, we remain committed to establishing and defending the legal rights of immigrants regardless of background and transforming the immigration system to one that affords equal opportunity for all.

With gratitude,

Mary Meg McCarthy
