LESSONS FROM DISTRICT 1 - FUEL FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST PROP 50
|
|
|
|
The July Special Election for County Supervisor in District 1 was a tough loss. Democrat Paloma Aguirre defeated Republican John McCann by eight points. Given the registration numbers in D1 (45% Democrat vs. 22% Republican), the outcome wasn’t surprising — it was always an uphill climb.
But inside that loss lies a powerful lesson: when Republicans organize, we can beat expectations.

Republican turnout reached nearly 32% of the electorate — about 40% higher than our share of registered voters.

In July, Republican turnout reached nearly 32% of the electorate — about 40% higher than our share of registered voters. That wasn’t luck. It was the result of teamwork: the county party, the McCann campaign, Reform California, grassroots volunteers, and donors working in unison. Envelopes were stuffed, doors knocked, texts and emails sent. And where we worked hardest, Republican numbers surged. The message is clear: effort drives turnout.
Now the stakes are even higher. The campaign to Vote NO on Prop 50 demands the same intensity — and this time the battlefield is far more favorable. Unlike District 1’s steep registration gap, Prop 50 is a contest we can win. Polls show that when voters understand what’s at stake, a majority reject Prop 50. Even when pollsters tilt the language, support is soft and vulnerable to strong Republican turnout.
The takeaway for Republicans:
- Get the message right. Prop 50 is a power grab by insider politicians. It rigs the system, destroys competition, and lets politicians choose their voters instead of the other way around.
- Get to work. Ballots go out soon, and Election Day is less than two months away. Victory requires everything we’ve got: mailings, calls, texts, canvassing, and the resources to fuel it all.
District 1 proved Republicans can rise above the numbers when we organize. Now, with Prop 50, the odds are better and the stakes are higher.
It’s time to roll up our sleeves. Donate. Volunteer. Spread the word. Let’s defeat Prop 50.

VOTER ID - THE PERFECT MATCH FOR PROP 50
|
|
|
|
There’s a lot happening right now—and it’s not even an election year!
Along with the fight over Prop 50, the Republican Party of San Diego County is partnering with Reform California to advance a long-awaited amendment to the state constitution requiring Voter ID to both register and cast a ballot. The timing couldn’t be better. The momentum is here, and we are poised for a major win.

Polls show that about 70% of Californians support Voter ID—including majorities of both Democrats and Republicans. Our mission is simple: give voters what they want.

This campaign will culminate in the November 2026 general election, but the groundwork we’re laying now is critical. To qualify the measure, we’ll need about 1.2 million petition signatures statewide. To prepare, volunteers have already hand-addressed more than one million envelopes, scheduled to be mailed around October 1 with petition forms and campaign flyers. After that, the signature drive begins in earnest.
We’re counting on thousands of grassroots volunteers to carry this project forward. If needed, we’re also prepared to hire professional signature gatherers to close the gap. But success starts with you.
Here’s how you can help right now:
- Volunteer: Join us in stuffing and mailing those envelopes.
- Donate: Every dollar helps pay for campaign operations and materials.
- Gather Signatures: Be an influencer in your circle—ask family, friends, and neighbors to sign. Your personal outreach is the key to victory.
Together, we can secure Voter ID for California. Let’s make history. If you haven’t yet done so, you can sign up to help here: Voter ID.
