Dear JOHN,
On October 1, the federal government shut down because Donald Trump and Republicans would not agree to legislation that kept the government open while lowering health care costs.
A government shutdown means that thousands of federal workers in New York and across the country have been furloughed, our National Parks have been forced to close to visitors, and our troops and federal law enforcement officials are now working without pay.
That is unacceptable.
I’ve been in Washington, ready to work on a bipartisan solution to reopen the government, but Speaker Mike Johnson has not called the House back for votes, meaning the House cannot vote to end the shutdown.
