BIG COUNTRY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – House Budget Chairman and District 19 U.S. Representative Jodey Arrington says he will forgo his paycheck during the government shutdown, standing in solidarity with military members who aren’t being paid.

“I have been informed despite a lapse of government funding and the current shutdown, Members of Congress will continue receiving their salary,” said Chairman Arrington. “I find it fundamentally flawed that members of our military will not receive a paycheck during this time, yet we as their representatives are permitted to live under a different set of rules. Therefore, I request my pay be withheld until an appropriations agreement has taken effect.”

At 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, the federal government shut down after lawmakers failed to reach an agreement on funding bills, leaving service members and many other federal employees without pay.
