Dear Friend,

In this week's roundup: Democrats shut down the government. That and more – remember to follow my Facebook page by clicking here and my Twitter page by clicking here to stay up-to-date throughout the week!

I VOTED TO KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OPEN

On September 19th, alongside my Republican colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives, I voted to keep the government open and prevent a shutdown that would hurt our seniors, veterans, and small businesses. This responsible approach ensures that we can continue the appropriations process, properly steward taxpayer dollars, and cut wasteful government spending from the federal budget.

Regrettably, Democrats shut down the government because their demands of $1.5 trillion in new government spending and free healthcare for illegal immigrants were not met. This unnecessary stunt will prevent Iowans from accessing vital services that they depend on to instead advance a partisan agenda.

I also instructed the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. House of Representatives to withhold my pay until the Democrats decide to be reasonable and reopen the government.

Rep. Feenstra Says He Will Forgo Congressional Pay During Shutdown

District 4 Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) announced yesterday (Tuesday) he would be forgoing his congressional pay for the duration of the government shutdown. Feenstra says, "On September 19th, I voted to keep the government open and prevent

BACKING LEGISLATION TO ENSURE OUR TROOPS AND BORDER PATROL AGENTS ARE PAID DURING A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

Democrats' unnecessary shutdown stunt prevents our troops and border patrol agents from being paid. It’s wrong and shameful.

Since the Democrats have shut down the government, I have backed legislation to ensure that our troops and border patrol agents continue to receive their pay uninterrupted during a government shutdown.

Our troops and border patrol agents should not have to pay the price for Democrats’ partisan antics.

Feenstra Backs Legislation to Pay Troops and Border Patrol Agents during Government Shutdown

HULL, IOWA - Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) announced that he has cosponsored two pieces of legislation - the Pay Our Troops Act and the Pay Our Border Patrol and Customs Agents Act - to ensure that U.S.

INVESTING IN RURAL HOSPITALS AND HEALTHCARE

As part of the package of tax cuts that Republicans passed and President Trump signed for working families, we included $50 billion for rural hospitals and healthcare.

This infusion will improve patient care and keep our rural healthcare facilities open.

Investing $50 billion into rural hospitals and healthcare

Born and raised in rural Iowa, expanding access to high-quality, affordable healthcare in our rural communities is personal for me. Regardless of zip code, our families, seniors, and veterans should not have to travel long distances or jump through headache-inducing hoops to get the care they deserve or the prescriptions they need.

THANK YOU TO PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR STANDING WITH IOWA FARMERS

I appreciate President Trump for always standing with Iowa farmers and producers.

China is unfairly holding soybean markets hostage.

I’m committed to working with President Trump to deliver immediate relief for our farmers and continue to secure strong trade deals for Iowa agriculture.

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

From family members and co-workers to fellow church members and neighbors, almost everyone knows somebody who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Today and always, we pray for those brave women still battling cancer, celebrate the survivors, and remember those taken too soon.

HONORING GOLD STAR MOTHERS AND FAMILIES

Last weekend, we recognized Gold Star Mothers and Families Day and honored our fellow Americans who lost loved ones in service to our country.

We can never adequately thank those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We will always stand with our Gold Star mothers and families.

ASKING USDA TO RELOCATE AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH PROJECTS TO AMES

This week, I sent a letter, along with the entire Iowa delegation and Governor Reynolds, to Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins asking that USDA relocate agricultural research projects to Ames as part of the USDA's ongoing reorganization plan.

Iowa is the perfect location for USDA investments!

Iowa lawmakers call on U.S. ag secretary to bring USDA research services to the state

Top Iowa lawmakers are making the pitch for the U.S. Department of Agriculture to move its in-house research agency to the state as the government agency plans to shift its workforce away from the Washington D.C., area and to regional hubs across the country.

ONE LAST THING: GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN INFORMATION GUIDE

During this Democrat-led government shutdown, our offices remain open and able to assist you with any issues you may have with the federal government.

A federal shutdown impacts all discretionary spending, including but not limited to our military, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Health and Humans Services. For instance, this may affect Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices, small business loans, and IRS phone services. However, mandatory services will continue as normal. These include Social Security payments, Medicare and Medicaid coverage, and SNAP benefits.

MY WEEKLY COLUMN: UNLEASHING IOWA MANUFACTURING WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP'S TAX CUTS

In October, our country celebrates Manufacturing Month and recognizes the critical importance of manufacturing to our economy.

Domestic manufacturing supports good-paying jobs in our communities, strengthens our supply chains, and helps reduce our dependence on foreign nations for the goods and products that Iowans need and rely on.

During this month, we also honor Iowa workers in the manufacturing sector who keep our economy moving and make invaluable contributions to our communities.
