John,

Earlier this week, Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth commanded every general from across the world to abandon their posts and gather in Virginia in an attempt to use our generals as the backdrop for a fascist rally.

During Trump’s speech, he shocked the generals by suggesting that he will command them to use U.S. cities as training grounds for the military:

If you’re wondering what this will look like when it comes to your city, look no further than my backyard—Chicago. Trump’s war against American citizens is here, taking place in our streets. And it is a terrifying display of fascist brutality:

In an overnight raid on a South Side apartment building, armed ICE agents in military gear and assault rifles rappelled from a helicopter onto the roof of the complex. They then proceeded to bust down residents' doors, detaining people regardless of legal status, some of them children, zip-tied their hands and dragged them into U-Haul vans while they determined their legal status.

Trump has turned Chicago into a warzone.

During these dangerous times, it is important for our community to look after one another and know how to safely engage with federal authorities in these types of situations.

When documenting and reporting ICE activity in your community, it’s best to follow the S.A.L.U.T.E. method to ensure you’re spreading valuable information and not panic. It is also helpful to follow the ACLU’s guide on knowing your rights if you are ever detained or interact with ICE in public:

Those wrongfully detained in the Chicago apartment raid were able to secure their release by demanding their rights, showing just how important it is to know them if you are ever wrongfully detained by federal authorities.

I will continue what I started even before I was a candidate, standing side by side with families impacted by ICE and joining in peaceful resistance to Trump’s fascist attack on our city. But when I get to Congress, I’ll immediately press for the investigation of these crimes being committed by ICE agents and push to end Trump’s mass deportation campaign.

But first, I need to get to Congress, and I’ll need your help to get there. So I ask you: Will you pitch in $25, $10, or whatever you can spare to take this fight from the streets of Chicago to the halls of Congress, where we can fight Trump’s fascist war against America where it matters most?
