Greetings!
I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives.
As you may know, on September 19, 2025, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a Trump-backed, clean short-term continuing resolution (CR) that allows the federal government to remain open at current funding levels while Congress continues to make progress in completing the Fiscal Year (FY26) appropriations process. I proudly voted “YES” to pass this CR to keep the government open and working for We the People.
This CR has failed to pass the U.S. Senate four times. Why?
There are only 53 Republicans in the Senate. To pass the CR, at least seven Democrats must support the short-term funding bill, allowing the government to resume operations following the President’s signing the CR into law, which he has consistently said he would do.
Unfortunately, both House and Senate Democrats have repeatedly refused to support this bill—which is the same exact CR they supported under the Biden Administration 13 times, adjusted for inflation—because they have a list of radical demands with a hefty price tag of $1.5 trillion.
My Democrat colleagues want you to foot the bill and provide free taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens, provide $500 million to prop up liberal news outlets, all the while simultaneously cutting $50 billion in investments for improving rural healthcare.
Shutdowns have consequences. According to the White House Council of Economic Advisors (CEA), each week the Democrat Shutdown is prolonged, $15 billion in U.S. GDP will be wiped out. Further, the CEA estimates that Texas's Gross State Product will decline by approximately $1.4 billion for each week the shutdown extends.
Democrats in Congress are refusing to do the right thing for the American people and are keeping the government closed to appease the far-left wing of their base. I encourage my Democrat colleagues to cast their vote to pass the clean, nonpartisan CR that keeps the government open. It’s the right thing to do for American families, seniors, and veterans.
