Even though the government has come to a halt — we haven’t. Your message was carried to sold-out events in the liberal stronghold of Boston and the conservative stronghold of Texas this week. You also make it possible to continue fighting for conservative causes from free trade to the right to life. Here’s an update on the week’s activities nationwide.
Promoting American Dynamism at Austin Event The eyes of Texas were upon AAF this week as Founder VP Mike Pence, President Tim Chapman, and Chairman Marc Short joined leading entrepreneurs and the University of Texas Civitas Institute for a sold-out event in Austin about AI’s role in promoting American dynamism.
VP Pence in Boston: “The real work has to be done” AAF Founder Vice President Mike Pence joined Meghan McCain at the Kennedy Institute in Boston to discuss populism, conservatism, and civility. During the interview, Vice President Pence emphasized the growing need to stand up for policies that reflect the desires of the American people — from free trade to school choice, and more. Watch the video here.
The Fight for Life Continues Yesterday, the FDA approved a generic version of the chemical abortion drug Mifepristone. This alarming and disappointing decision is a far cry from the promises President Trump made on the campaign trail. AAF Founder Vice President Mike Pence explains, | “The Trump Administration’s approval of a generic chemical abortion drug is a complete betrayal of the pro-life movement that elected President Trump. Earlier this year, I opposed RFK’s nomination because he was unfit for the role and particularly over the concern that he would expand access to abortion, as he has done today. President Trump must immediately reverse this decision. RFK must resign and give President Trump the opportunity to appoint a new Secretary of HHS who will protect the sanctity of life.” |
AAF will continue to push for pro-life government appointees and policies that help protect the lives of both women and children for years to come.
As AAF Chairman Marc Short made it clear this week on CNN — this shutdown isn’t about top-line spending — it’s about show. Democrats will likely drag it out to prove they’re “standing up” to Republicans and Trump instead of passing a CR bill that they’ve approved many times before. We will continue to monitor the situation and speak out in favor of reopening the government with a clean stopgap bill.
Preventing Smoot-Hawley 2.0 It’s likely that the IEEPA tariffs will be upheld as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in the coming weeks — but that isn’t stopping the Trump administration from seeking out alternative avenues. As Independent Institute’s Phil Magness and AAF’s Marc Wheat lay out in their joint National Review piece, the Trump administration is currently looking into using the highly discredited Smoot-Hawley Act as another means of enacting broad-based tariffs. As any student of history knows, this act greatly contributed to the devastation of the Great Depression. Until Congress rightly reclaims its power, broad tariffs will only continue to hurt the American economy.
In an op-ed featured in the Daily Caller this week, AAF General Counsel Marc Wheat warns how American schools are indoctrinating our youth with harmful gender ideology. Teachers and staff aren’t just using children’s “preferred pronouns” and providing unsolicited advice — they’re doing it behind the backs of parents. By targeting children who already struggle with mental illness, radically progressive teachers and staff are causing students great confusion — even to the point of attempted suicide. This is why AAF is calling on the FTC to investigate any and all schools involved to eliminate this dangerous rhetoric and restore parental rights.
