🍂September 2025 Edition🍂

Fall has officially arrived, kids are back in school, and the final countdown to Election Day is ticking. This past month, we closed out the quarter and successfully hit our online fundraising goals thanks to grassroots donors like you — now, we’re getting ready to sprint in these final few weeks before the general election.

This year’s elections have the potential to signal Democratic strength in the wake of Trump’s second term. Our moms are stepping up to fight back against extremist policies that jeopardize the safety and well-being of everyday families.

Here’s our recap of the last month! !

ELECTION WINNERS

When moms run, moms win! That was proven by our incredible endorsed mamas who had recent special election victories:

  • IN IOWA >> Catelin Drey flipped a Republican seat in a 22 point swing toward Democrats. This means Republicans no longer hold a supermajority in the Iowa Senate, making it harder for them to implement their dangerous agenda.

  • IN MINNESOTA >> Rep. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger won her primary with 82% of the vote. Now she advances to the special general election for a state Senate seat, which is key to maintaining a one-seat Democratic majority. She has been a fighter for moms and families for years.

  • IN ARIZONA >> Adelita Grijalva won her special election — and she will now be the FIRST Latina Congresswoman from Arizona and the FIRST mom to represent AZ’s 7th District!

ALUMNAE SPOTLIGHTS

New Jersey Congresswoman LaMonica McIver continued to make headlines in the wake of unfounded attacks against her by Trump’s Department of Justice. She was charged and indicted this spring for doing her job and conducting a legally authorized congressional oversight visit at an ICE detention facility in Newark.

Rep. McIver’s case is still pending, and she’s facing mounting legal fees and up to 17 years in prison. With House rules barring her from accepting pro bono counsel, the hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay her attorneys must come out of her campaign funds or out of pocket.

News outlets like Vox are covering the story, calling the baseless allegations against Rep. McIver a dangerous “new authoritarian tactic” by Trump: bringing dubious criminal charges against elected Dems that force them to drain their campaign funds—and possibly their personal bank accounts—to defend themselves. Vote Mama will continue to have Rep. McIver’s back and show our support in any way we can.

CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHT

In more media coverage out of New Jersey: Rep. Mikie Sherrill is LEADING her Republican opponent in the Garden State’s competitive gubernatorial race, according to brand new polling data spotlighted by The Hill earlier this week.

At least THREE recent polls show the race moving in Rep. Sherrill’s direction, evidence of her momentum following an official endorsement by outgoing NJ Gov. Phil Murphy.

Meanwhile, Rep. Sherrill is also being targeted by national Republicans making up bogus attacks against her. The GOP-led National Archives and Records Administration released unredacted versions of her naval records, which included her Social Security number and other private information. It’s a clear act of political desperation by Republicans to try and push their candidate ahead — and it’s the exact kind of dirty politics that Americans should reject in November.

“That Jack Ciattarelli and the Trump administration are illegally weaponizing my records for political gain is a violation of anyone who has ever served our country. No veteran's record is safe."  - Rep. Mikie Sherrill, Vote Mama 2025 Candidate for New Jersey Governor

POLITICS OF PARENTHOOD

The new Politics of Parenthood report just released by Vote Mama Foundation, the nation’s leading source of research and analysis about the political participation of moms, finds that moms of minors remain significantly underrepresented in Congress.

Here are some key takeaways:

  • Just 7.2 percent of the 119th Congress are moms of minor children—well SHORT of the 18 percent of American adults who are moms.
  • Dads OUTNUMBER moms overwhelmingly by three to one, but the gap is even wider for parents with children under 6, nine to one.
  • For the second Congress in a row, there are THREE times as many men named John in the U.S. Senate as moms of minor children.
  • A majority of states have ZERO MOMS representing them in Congress.

Vote Mama founder and CEO Liuba Grechen Shirley had this to say about the findings: “Our policies fail women and children because our legislature is missing the lived experiences of moms. That’s why childcare costs more than college in most states and why we are the only industrialized nation with no paid family leave.”

TAKE ACTION

We’re down to the final month before Election Day, which means every moment and every dollar will make all the difference in determining the outcome of key races across the country.

Our endorsed Democratic moms are gaining traction — winning special elections, achieving progress in office, making news headlines, and gaining in the polls. But if they’re going to make it across the finish line and defeat their GOP opponents in November, we can’t let the positive momentum waver, even for a second.

We’ve got just 32 more days left to provide our mamas with the necessary resources to reach and energize undecided voters on time. This is an all-hands moment, so we urgently need to know you’re with us when it matters most. Will you please rush a contribution of any amount to help propel our mamas to victory as we head into the final few months before Election Day?
