Video captures man opening fire at LAPD cops inside liquor store
Newly released bodycam footage shows a suspect opening fire at LAPD officers inside a liquor store, leading to a shootout with police, KABC reported. The Aug. 31 incident began when two officers attempted to detain a man they believed was concealing a firearm, according to the report. Body camera footage from the officers involved and surveillance footage shows the officers entering the store and speaking with a man near the entrance. The conversation cannot be heard because of the body camera’s two-minute audio buffer. “I don’t have no weapons, sir,” the man can be heard saying as the camera audio begins. As an officer reached out to grab the man’s arm, the man resisted, running toward the back of the store. As officers pursued the man, the man can be seen producing a gun from a pocket or waistband. Shots can be heard as the officers turn to retreat. They called for backup, exited the store and took cover behind a cruiser. The suspect can be seen on surveillance footage chasing after the officers, firing shots at them as he ran toward the exit of the store, visibly wounded. The suspect fled but was later found hiding behind a parked car, wounded in the arm. Police recovered an unloaded 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine under a nearby vehicle, according to the report. The liquor store, a patrol car and other nearby vehicles were damaged by gunfire.

Man says $20,000 Rolex stolen from locker at Equinox gym
A man says his $20,000 Rolex was stolen from inside a locked locker at an Equinox gym in Studio City, raising concerns about thefts in fitness centers across Los Angeles. Darrius Hicks told KTLA he placed his watch in his locker on Sept. 18 before taking a shower and using the steam room. When he returned about 15 minutes later, the watch was gone. “I put my watch inside the locker,” Hicks said. “Took a shower and steamed. I came back maybe about 15 minutes or so and my watch was gone.” Hicks said the Rolex carried more than just monetary value. He explained that he and a close friend bought matching watches to celebrate the success of their real estate ventures. “We were starting real estate together and doing quite a few real estate deals, and then we bought these matching Rolexes as a celebratory thing,” Hicks recalled. “Maybe about three years later he passed away at the age of 36.” LAPD has not confirmed whether Hicks’ case is connected to other reported gym thefts. However, officials have previously warned that locker rooms in gyms across Los Angeles — from the San Fernando Valley to the Westside — have become frequent targets for thieves.

Attorney information for Magallanes was not immediately available. Solorio’s family addressed the court during Magallanes’ sentencing, Southern California News Group reported. “To you, he was no one,” his older sister, Eva Solorio, said, the outlet reported. “To us, he was everything. … I lost more than a brother. I lost a piece of myself.” Carlos Solorio said his brother “was stolen from us in the most cowardly way possible,” the outlet reported.
