Dear Neighbor,

It’s difficult to put into words the weight of the recent tragedies that have shaken Minnesota and our nation. I am heartbroken, sickened, and angry over the killing of Charlie Kirk, as well as the horrific violence here at home with the murder of children at Annunciation Church, and before that, the assassination of Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark.

Charlie Kirk has changed America. He had an unwavering belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and an willingness to share his message with everyone, especially younger adults. 

Secondly, his commitment to his family was admirable. Erika is an amazing person, who spoke with extraordinary grace and strength following her husband’s tragedy. She reminded everyone about Christianity, forgiveness, and the gospel message.  Her words will serve as guide to the nation for years to come.

Charlie will be remembered for his deep love of America. He believed in people, freedom, and personal responsibility.  He saw America as exceptional, a place that offers the chance to strive, to grow, and build a better future – a place where anything is possible. 

These events have awakened our nation. 

Romans 12:21 reminds us: “Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.”  America is grounded in Christian values and has long been a beacon of light to our planet. The world is watching us, and they are counting on us to stand strong and peace and freedom.

Minnesota’s massive fraud problem continues to make news, with a huge autism therapy case among the latest headlines. Some providers are being accused of billing for services that never actually happened and taking advantage of programs designed to support kids with special needs. Federal prosecutors recently indicated Asha Hassan, who already was tied to the Feeding Our Future scandal, is now facing wire fraud charges in a $14 million autism therapy scheme. A new MPR article [ [link removed] ] indicates, “Over the last two weeks, federal prosecutors in Minnesota have charged nine people with defrauding two different Medicaid programs, and they say this is just the beginning.”

I am serious about clamping down on the gross misuse of tax dollars that is running rampant in our state. Every stolen dollar is money that should’ve gone to kids and vulnerable people who really need help, and it chips away at public trust in state programs. Also, I recently co-signed a letter to President Trump requesting the federal government investigate Minnesota's fraud problem. It reads, in part, “We need your leadership to help confront this crisis head-on by ensuring the investigators, oversight, and accountability are in place to root out fraud and restore trust. Minnesotans deserve to know that taxpayer dollars are protected, that fraudsters will be held accountable, and that federal programs are serving those who truly need them.”

*House Undergraduate Internship Program*

Looking for a hands-on way to boost your studies and kickstart your career? Apply for the Undergraduate Internship Program at the House. As an intern, you’ll spend at least six hours a week in a member’s office or department, helping with things like research, committee reports, legislative summaries, press releases, and more. You’ll also attend weekly sessions where you’ll meet lawmakers, staff, and other leaders from across state government. Interns receive a $125 weekly stipend after meeting the six-hour requirement.
