Tillis, announced that he will not seek re-election.

Almost immediately, the nation’s top election watchers re-classified the
race from “Lean Republican” to “TOSS UP” — solidifying North Carolina as
Democrats’ best opportunity to pick up a Senate seat in 2026.

Then, candidates entered the race on both sides. Democrat Roy Cooper, the
state’s former governor who has never lost an election, and Republican
Michael Whatley, former chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Now, the GOP is flooding North Carolina with money. They know the stakes
of this race. They know that Democrats are gaining incredible momentum. So
they’re already spending whatever it takes to keep this seat in their
control — more than a year out from the election!
