Folks, I wanted to make sure you saw this:
I sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi after the Department of Justice indicted former FBI Director James Comey, making clear that any abuse of prosecutorial power is both un-American and unacceptable.
|
As a prosecutor, Pam Bondi should know this as well as I do: we hold a very serious responsibility to wield our power in a fair and just manner, driven by facts and law.
Comey’s indictment is one more step in a deeply alarming trend of the politicization of the U.S. DOJ and ongoing abuse of power by those who ought to be most committed to justice.
I’m inspired by the many former U.S. DOJ employees who have resigned rather than agreeing to take part in the President’s petty, politically-motivated agenda.
But public servants shouldn’t have to sacrifice their own careers to defend the integrity of the Justice Department — our U.S. Attorney General and our President should never put them in that position.
As a fellow law officer, I implore Pam Bondi to reassert the U.S. DOJ’s independence, preserve the integrity of our legal system, and uphold the democratic norms our country relies on.
And as California Attorney General, I will never stop fighting against those who violate the law and the Constitution — and for the legal rights and freedoms owed to every one of us.
