The federal government has shut down, and we need YOU to urge your members of Congress to stop the administration from unlawfully dismantling government services that protect our health, safety, and environment.

WHAT’S HAPPENING
For the past year, the Trump administration and their congressional Republican allies have been unlawfully defunding government programs and taking much-needed resources away from communities. They have been firing thousands of government employees at key agencies like the EPA, NOAA, and FEMA, and that leaves us dangerously ill-prepared for responding to hurricanes and other disasters. NRDC, our affiliate organization, joined a lawsuit with a coalition of groups to challenge this executive order to lay off huge numbers of staff.

The administration is now accelerating its plan to permanently dismantle the agencies responsible for protecting our health and environment — the culmination of what they laid out in their Project 2025 playbook.

Tell your members of Congress to stop the administration before it’s too late.

WHY IT MATTERS
Congressional Republicans must come to the table to work with Democrats and reclaim Congress’s power to keep the administration’s unlawful actions in check. The administration is currently using this government closure to gut environmental and health safeguards and further the fossil fuel industry’s agenda.

To end the shutdown, members of Congress need to negotiate a bipartisan solution that protects families and communities.

Congress must work together and oppose anything that:

• Shortchanges disaster relief urgently needed in the wake of hurricanes, wildfires, and more extreme weather made worse by climate change
• Drastically slashes renewable energy, increasing energy bills for Americans
• Helps corporations dodge responsibility for paying their fair share for polluting our environment
• Cuts taxes for big polluters
• Undermines the government’s ability to enforce and implement environmental laws and protections that protect our health

We must fill the halls of Congress with messages supporting strong funding bills that protect our health and environment.

Urge Congress to block the administration from using the shutdown to permanently dismantle the government, and negotiate a solution that safeguards our environment and health.
