Government shutdowns come with real consequences for the American people:

* Air traffic safety oversight will be limited
* New Social Security applications could be delayed
* Federal workers will not be paid
* SNAP funding could run out by the end of the month
* And much more

Meanwhile, what are we seeing from the Trump administration?

They’re continuing construction of Trump’s gilded White House ballroom. They’re using the shutdown as a pretext to ramp up their long-term efforts to fire civil servants. And they’re using official resources for partisan messaging to blame political opponents for the shutdown.

As CREW’s Donald Sherman told Politico , while the messages may not violate the Hatch Act, they ignore the legal obligation for agency employees to “provide nonpartisan service to their constituents. A government shutdown causes stress for the public regardless of political affiliation; it is wildly inappropriate for agency leadership to politicize the situation and blame political enemies.”

The government is supposed to be about serving the public. Not presidential pet projects or scoring political points.
