In 2021, Whatcom County became the first county in the nation to ban the construction of new oil refineries and fossil fuel export infrastructure. Now, we must defend those hard-won gains by keeping new corporate polluters out — and stopping existing ones from expanding.

• Carly James (Port of Bellingham Board, District 2): Running against a conservative incumbent, Carly is ready to lead on decarbonization, expand EV infrastructure, support fishing and Tribal fleets’ transition to renewable fuels, and block new fossil fuel projects. Her win would flip the board to a progressive majority.
• Elizabeth Boyle (County Council, District 2): Elizabeth is focused on affordable, sustainable housing that reduces sprawl, improves walkability and transit, and keeps fossil fuel corporations out of her community. 
• Jessica Rienstra (County Council, District 3): Born and raised in rural Whatcom County, Jessica knows firsthand the struggles of rising costs, limited healthcare access, and climate-driven disasters. She’ll prioritize strengthening flood resilience in the Nooksack basin, updating land use policies, and investing in infrastructure that protects farms, homes, and our precious habitats.

These leaders understand there’s no time to waste. The climate crisis won’t wait, and neither can we, John. We have to give the next 32 days until Election Day everything we’ve got if we’re going to break Big Oil’s chokehold on our political system.
