Friend,
Our country is now in the middle of another Republican government shutdown. Working families across New Jersey are being forced to pay the price for this administration’s political games. They even froze federal funding for the Gateway Tunnel and other critical infrastructure projects in our region.
This goes beyond political retribution; it’s flat-out sabotage.
The Gateway Tunnel is not some luxury project. It is, frankly, one of the most important infrastructure undertakings in the nation. It will protect millions of commuters, strengthen our economy, and ensure our region’s transportation system is safe and reliable for decades to come. Blocking funding for it and treating it like a bargaining chip is irresponsible and disrespectful to every single New Jerseyan.
Above all, I fight for New Jersey families. Delivering funding for our transportation, protecting health care, and lowering costs for families have been and will continue to be top priorities of mine in Washington. This shutdown is the exact opposite of that. Families are stretched thin — paying more at the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the gas pump — and this manufactured crisis only risks exacerbating those issues.
I didn’t come to Congress to play political games. I came here to deliver for New Jersey. Right now, that means reopening the government, protecting affordable health care, and making sure critical investments like the Gateway Tunnel move forward.
I will keep fighting to make sure our community’s needs are never used as bargaining chips. New Jersey deserves better.
With gratitude,
Nellie Pou
