Congressman Josh Gottheimer (D-Wall Street) wants New Jersey voters to believe that they must tolerate him siding with his Wall Street donors, voting with Trump, watering down President Obama's laws, opposing progressive ideas, and actively working to keep kids in cages at the border.
That's ridiculous. We don't.
I was communications director for the New Jersey Democratic Party before co-founding the PCCC. I wanted nothing more than to flip this NJ-5 congressional seat Democratic. And frankly, I was happy when Gottheimer did years ago.
But it's clear as day that we can elect a real progressive now. When Gottheimer first won this seat, he did it with a mere 4.4%.
Since Gottheimer was first elected, the district has gotten more progressive, more diverse, and more outraged at Trump. In 2018, Democrats won this district by 13.7% -- a whopping 41,291-vote margin over the Republicans!
Progressive Congresswoman Katie Porter flipped a red seat blue with a 4.2% margin and she's crushing it in Congress -- fighting corporations, supporting Medicare For All, and fighting Trump instead of helping him.
That's why she, the PCCC, Sunrise Movement, Indivisible, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, and Senator Bernie Sanders endorse Arati Kreibich.
Rachel Maddow highlighted this race and said this week, "This is a real fight. This is real stakes...Democratic primary fights are about Democratic voters making their own decisions amongst themselves about what they want from their party and who they want to represent them."
She showed a news report pointing out that Gottheimer "voted with Trump more than any Democrat in the nation."
I would argue that Arati has the BEST chance to mobilize our voters and win in November.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
