The Superintendent
& the Shutdown
It’s been an eventful couple of weeks.
Here in Oklahoma, State Superintendent Ryan Walters resigned after two and a half years of drama and damaging chaos.
We’re glad to see him gone.

Our 700,000 public school students and their families deserve leadership that works for them. And while some Republicans are quietly celebrating his departure, it was Oklahoma Democrats who called for accountability from day one.
I remember shaking his hand before his first budget presentation, after a toxic campaign season. I told him he could count on Democrats to ask whether he was ready to stop campaigning and start governing.
We got his answer pretty quick.
Now a new superintendent has to rebuild the state’s largest appropriated agency. The governor made his pick, but only Democrats have the will and the plan to restore the teacher corps and promote real education reform that works for working families.

Meanwhile, in Washington, Republicans failed to secure critical funding for affordable healthcare and shut down the government.
At stake is Soonercare, the insurance program that helps Oklahoma families get the care they need. Our entire federal delegation voted for cuts that will drive up rates for everyone, some families' monthly premiums will double!
That’s why we staged a town hall in Del City on Wednesday to make our voices heard. Dozens showed up on short notice to hear from Democratic legislators who are fighting for ordinary folks.
As chairman, I pledge to you that the Oklahoma Democratic Party will be in the fight at every level, whether it’s holding the Governor’s appointees accountable to the people or protecting the public services that make our communities and our state stronger.
We’ll take on the special interests that go after our hospitals and our schools.
And next year, with your help, we’ll take the fight to them on the campaign trail.
That's why we need your help today. Give what you can now to help us build the momentum, campaigns, and the infrastructure needed to turn this State around. [[link removed]]
